It’s uncomfortable, at times, to blog. I still fight the urge to journal my innermost thoughts and feelings, like a real diary. I know on some level that I made a decision to abide by some boundaries where that is concerned. So keeping it personal while not blurting out things I’ll regret: that’s the balancing act in blogville.
It’s complicated by the fact that this is an artblog; as I show my art, I am publicly exposing aspects of myself. It’s impossible to separate any kind of authentic art from the artist. Still, no more hiding. That’s the mantra for today.
I took photos of each stage of this piece. Hope you enjoy the process.
I love this! I would really love to get my friend Caroline Parry (mother, by the way, of Richard Reed Parry, member of the recently triply triumphant Arcade Fire indy soft rock group) looking at your blog. She is greatly into collages, but she doesn’t paint them at all, and I’m sure she could. She would be inspired by you! And also – your woman in this one looks sort of like Caro! I’m going to tell her to go here!

COOL! I love watching it evolve. The yellow touches are fabulous, and the details of little faery creatures peeking out from the layers are so much fun. How did you transfer the drawing? What is substrate? Tell me sometime. Keep risking it–you’re inspiring others!

Very cool Susan! I love the dancing fairies interlaced into the background. There’s a lot going on in there, so I love the complexity added by the collage.
Keep your creative juices flowing!

Oh Susan – this is just LOVELY! I am completely smitten! I have no clue how to do collage/painting like this…I really appreciate you sharing the step by step!! I love the freedom that this kind of creating represents, and I definitely want to bring more of that into my work…thank you for the inspiration!
I really enjoy your blog and FB posts…it’s been neat to get to know you a bit better…I look forward to when we can create together and visit in person. I would love to have a creative day somewhere, sometime when we can all get together and explore painting/art journaling…how fun would THAT be!?!
Meanwhile, keep on being brave and putting yourself out there…the dividends for yourself and for all of us are huge…I know I am the richer for it!
Hugs & Blessings,
Becky

Hey Becky, thanks for stopping by and appreciating my efforts. This is actually a new technique I was trying, although I’ve done collage for years. I have more time and energy now and am on a mission to expand my artistic pursuits. Thanks again SO MUCH for your kind words. See you on FB and beyond!!!
